Style Crush: Zoe Saldana

Every so often our cinema screens see the most strikingly hot new actresses hit Hollywood, don't they? Some actresses are hyped up and then forgotten about a month later, but some only continue to prosper... enter the effortlessly fashionable, Zoe Saldana.

New Jersey-born Zoe landed her first major movie role back in 2002 when she starred alongside Britney Spears in the american chick-flick, 'Crossroads'. Since then she has gone on to star in some of the biggest blockbuster movies of our generation, including a small role in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl', a leading part as blue woman Neytiri in 'Avatar', as well as the action thriller 'Colombiana' and most recently, 'Star Trek Into Darkness'.

So with all of these films under her belt, it must be hard to keep up glamorous appearances in the press 24/7, but somehow Zoe always manages to look super stylish. What I love about her is that she never has to force a look, she adds her own playful personality into any outfit she wears, not to mention her ballerina-petite frame which enables her to carry off even the most daring fashion trends. For example, the Balmain dress she wore at the Berlin premiere of 'Star Trek Into Darkness'.

After reading an exclusive interview featuring Zoe in the June 2013 issue of InStyle Magazine, it became apparent that she has really had to work hard for her success and she's not afraid of speaking up either. When it comes to being outspoken, Zoe's personality is equally as sassy as her chameleon-like, ever-changing sense of style.

So if I were to sum-up Zoe Saldana's style in 5 words, what would they be? Contemporary, sassy, chic, minimalist (as she doesn't tend to wear many accessories), and sleek.

Sofia Dourvari hits the Catwalk at London Fashion Week 2013

A Manchester based fashion designer has secured an exclusive catwalk show at London Fashion Week 2013 Off Schedule events.

Sofia Dourvari (the new brand name for Sofia Couture) will showcase her dazzling new womenswear lines for A/W ’13-14 on 15^th September 2013, previewing 15 pieces.

She will also be exhibiting at the event on both 14^th and 15^th September 2013, highlighting her brand new lines and a selection of principal pieces from previous collections.

The designer behind the luxury womenswear brand is Sofia Dourvari, age 30, originally from Athens, Greece. Many of the designs hark back to the designer’s Greek roots with inspiration taken from Greek architecture and flowing lines inspired by the sea and wind.

The Sofia Dourvari collection will consist of black and white leather ensembles, cocktail dresses and statement pieces all showcasing her signature elements: fishtails, ruffles and gathers, structured and elegant flowing dresses, low scoops, and geometric shapes.

Colour is a central theme to the show with graceful, feminine pieces including black, bright red, gold and silver garment details in luxurious fabrics, metallics, faux leather, duchess satin, taffeta, crystal organza and chiffon.

She officially launched the high-end, luxury range of women’s clothing back in 2011 and has already hosted and participated in several successful and acclaimed fashion shows.

Sofia says: “It is a fantastic honour for me to feature the Sofia Dourvari collection at London Fashion Week’s Off Schedule Shows. This is my first London show and I’m hoping to build on the success of my previous fashion shows in Manchester and Birmingham. They were all well-attended with many positive reviews from fashion bloggers, websites and wider regional and national press.”

She added: “Fashion and design have always been my passions and my philosophy is to create elegant feminine designs that are creative, unusual and suitable for a wide range of occasions, from parties, galas and events, to weddings and formal dinners and even for the office. I like to create timeless designs suitable for ladies of any age, in both classic, practical shapes, in either pencil or skater-style, as well as dramatic floor-length gowns.”

The up and coming designer has lived and worked in Manchester for ten years and she is looking to break into the vibrant UK fashion community. Sofia studied Fashion Design at Salford University then went on to complete a Masters in Textiles Technology at the University of Manchester. During her studies, she won the Best Designer Award in the International Student Festival (2007).

Sofia is keen to secure listings in retail outlets and online so is happy to receive enquiries from store owners, womenswear buyers and fashion websites.

All items are bespoke and Sofia Dourvari offers an alterations service on all garments, making them truly customised and unique to the wearer.

London Fashion Week ’13 Off Schedule shows will take place on 14^th and 15^th September at the Grand Connaught Rooms, 61-65 Great Queen Street, Covent Garden, WC2B 5DA.

The shows are organised by Fashion’s Finest, a platform for new and established designers to showcase their ranges.

Happy Easter!

Hey bloggers, 

Long time no see! My apologies for the lack of posts (yes, almost 2 months is shameful!) sometimes work commitments can leave little time to do other things in life... like blogging :) but I'm digressing...

Ok, so I know it's not quite Easter Sunday yet but who doesn't love a good Easter blog post? :) Easter for me is all about feeling creative, eating lots of chocolate treats and most importantly, spending some quality time with those important to me.... as you can tell, I'm all about seasonal sentiments hehe!

This year I've already bought myself an After Eight dark chocolate Easter egg, just in case nobody remembers to buy me one. I'm trying to cut back on the serial chocolate eating lately which is difficult I have to say, but for those who are chocoholics, Easter is the perfect time to indulge.

Style Crush: Paloma Faith

Hello bloggers! This morning I wanted to talk about my biggest girl crush of the moment, rising star Paloma Faith.

I'm all for new talent, whether it's in the music bizz, on the cinema or in the fashion world, if there's individual style to be spotted, I'm sure to pick up on it. 

With this in mind, whilst flicking through my latest issue of Company mag it was brought to my attention that Paloma Faith does in fact deserve a blog post dedicated to her own unique sense of style.

These days fashion is everywhere and it's ever changing so it can be difficult to really do something different, but what I love about Paloma apart from her soulful vocals, is that she dresses for herself... she knows what suits her and isn't afraid to break the mold.

With her flame red locks, trademark red pout and kitsch 50's style wardrobe, it's no wonder she is often seen mingling at the hottest fashion shows.

Mixing classic hollywood glamour with more contemporary novelty pieces, Paloma Faith is my inspiration for all things bright and beautiful this christmas...

Hallowed be thy name...

Hey bloggers! My latest blog post will focus on all things Halloween as we're getting closer to October 31st.

I personally love this time of year... Autumn is beautiful with it's red, brown and yellow leaves which you can crunch with your boots in the park. Also, I love buying toffee apples, going to bonfire parties, shopping for the latest A/W fashions, and the cooler weather means you can have an excuse for an early night with a rich hot chocolate.

But for me Halloween is great fun. It's a holiday where you can watch horror movies to your heart's content, or you can dress up in scary/gothic fancy dress costumes and no-one can tell you otherwise!

This year I'm super excited to go and watch Silent Hill: Revelation at the cinema, as I've been waiting for this sequel for what seems like forever! I will also be vamping it up in Liverpool for a long overdue night out at Macabre.
